Police Block 47th BCS Candidates’ March in Shahbagh
The 47th BCS candidates clashed with the police in Shahbagh in the capital during a march towards Jamuna demanding an extension of the written exam time. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon. The police used water cannons and sound grenades to disperse the participants in the march.
The 47th BCS candidates started their march from the Central Shaheed Minar towards Jamuna, the official residence of the Chief Advisor, at around 12:30 pm on Tuesday. When they reached Shahbagh with their march, the police requested them not to go in front of them. Even then, when the BCS candidates tried to break the police barricade and clashed with the police. Later, the police used water cannons and sound grenades to move the protesters towards Dhaka University.
The participants in the march alleged that while previous BCS candidates were given 6 months to 1 year to prepare, they were given only 50 days, which is very unreasonable. More time should be given for preparation.
They also said that injustice will be done to them if the written exam is held on November 27. Therefore, they called on the PSC to extend the reasonable time.
The protesting candidates announced a strict movement, including blockade, if their demands were not met.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced that the examination will start as per the predetermined schedule (November 27) amid the movement demanding the postponement of the 47th BCS written examination. This information was revealed in a notification sent by the PSC on Sunday (November 23) night.
The movement has been going on for almost a month demanding the postponement of the 47th BCS written examination at a ‘reasonable time’. As part of this, the candidates blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh and Rajshahi-Dhaka railway lines last Saturday and Sunday (November 22 and 23).

In addition, after the protest in front of the Public Service Commission, their program has spread to several places in the country. Today, Tuesday, at 12:15 pm, job seekers from Jahangirnagar University protested by blocking the Dhaka-Aricha highway.
On the other hand, several labor organizations are protesting by blocking the road in front of the Secretariat for various demands. Led by the Bangladesh Daily Wage Based Employees Association, they are protesting by blocking the road at the Education Building, Press Club and High Court intersection adjacent to the Secretariat. Daily wage employees of various government institutions in the capital participated in this.
People returning home have suffered due to these two programs. As a result, vehicle traffic in the area has almost stopped. Many are having to return home on foot due to severe traffic jams on the road.
